Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot | £12 (From Boots)

I bought Soap & Glory's 'One Heck Of A Blot' as a part of a 3 for 2 offer a few months back (it's aaaalways on offer so keep an eye out if you're after anything S&G!) after hearing many beauty bloggers rave about this product. It's a translucent mattifying powder which claims to keep oil away. Sounds absolutely perfect for a lady like me, with really oily skin... right?
The claim about it being suitable for all skin colours is correct, however, I am not one for bad reviews and I hate being negative more than anything BUT I need to share my honest opinion. I find this is absolutely awful in comparison to the much cheaper 17 Miracle Matte Pressed Powder, I just don't feel like this sets my makeup at all, in any aspect. Yes it mattifies, but my face still feels tacky. I do find this clings to odd places, around my nose (which isn't dry skin may I add) and it does cling around blemishes. The more powder I use the cakier it looks - so it isn't that I'm not using enough, nor using too much. It just doesn't work for me, and I don't find this keeps me matte for a particularly long time.

However, this product is PERFECT for touching up during the day. Once I am really oily, and my makeup is starting to wear away a little this is amazing. It does mattify my skin alright in comparison to when first applying my makeup, however it does still cling to weird places on my face. It has a mirror and it's in a plastic case which is super handy for popping in the handbag.

I think this might be more ideal for someone with a little less oily skin who needs mattifying throughout the day, rather than from the start of the day. If you're after a setting powder or a really good mattifying powder, this is not the one. However if you're after something to pop in your bag for on the go touchups then this is probably perfect, but I will add you can get just as good powders for much cheaper, I feel really let down by S&G with this one, specially after all the hype it's had, I much prefer the 17 Miracle Matte Powder!

Do you have any matte powder recommendations? High or low end!

  1. A really intriguing review, it's good to hear an honest opinion that everyone claims about a product. I think this wouldn't suit me as like you I have very oily skin and want something that would last throughout the day.
